How can we help?
Short, step-by-step answers for teachers and students.
Getting started (teachers)
Create your first class
- Go to the teacher dashboard and choose Sign in with Google. Use your school Google account: personal accounts like Gmail can't be used for teacher accounts.
- Under Create a class, type a name (for example, "World Geography, Period 3"), pick your state's standards, and choose Create class.
- Your class gets a 6-letter join code. Share it with students.
Check that GeoJag works on your school network
- On a student device, on the school network, open the network check.
- In about 30 seconds it checks the website, signing in with a class code, and saving progress.
- If something is blocked, it writes a note listing exactly what your IT team needs to allow. Class codes never need Google Workspace setup.
Start the free one-week trial
- On the teacher dashboard, choose Start free trial.
- All ten regional maps unlock right away for all of your classes. No payment details are needed.
- The 7 days start when your first student joins (you have up to 14 days to get students in), so setup and IT time don't use up your week.
- When the trial ends, classes keep the free World map and all of their progress.
Get Premium for your school or district
Use the contact form. District leaders can find everything for a purchase review on the For districts page.
Getting students in
Students join with the class code
- Students go to geojag.com/students.html, find Sign in to your class, and enter the class code and their first and last name.
- They get a private 8-character student code. Ask them to write it down: it signs them in on any device.
- Close the class to new students once your roster is set: open the class and uncheck Accept new students with the join code.
Import your roster from Google Classroom
- Open your class on the teacher dashboard and choose Import from Google Classroom.
- Choose Connect Google Classroom and allow read-only access to your class list.
- Pick your Google Classroom class, check the students to add, and choose Add checked students.
- If your school's Google sign-in is set up for GeoJag, those students just choose Sign in with Google; no code needed. Otherwise, print their student codes.
If Google says access is blocked, your school's Google admin may need to allow GeoJag. Send them the IT setup page.
Students sign in with their school Google account
- Your school's email domain must be approved for GeoJag. It's set up with your Premium license, or ask us.
- Students choose Sign in with Google on the For students page and enter the class code once. After that, Google sign-in takes them straight to your class on any device.
A student forgot their student code
Open your class, click the student's name, and their code is at the top right. Or choose Print student codes for the whole class.
Add students yourself
Open your class, choose Add students, type one name per line, and choose Create student codes. Then print the codes and hand them out.
Teaching with GeoJag
Assign a mission with a due date
- Open your class. Under Assign a mission, pick the map, the mission, and the due date, and add a note if you like.
- Students see it at the top of that map's Missions tab.
- Click the assignment to see who's done, who has played, and who hasn't started.
Use the starting and final check-ins
- Students take the 10-question starting check-in from the map's Missions tab before they play much.
- The final check-in has the same questions. It opens after a student earns 3 stamps on that map, after two weeks, or when you check that map under Open the final check-in now.
- Your Check-ins card shows the class's growth by mission.
Read and score written responses
- After each mission and crew challenge, students can explain their thinking in writing.
- New responses appear under Explain your thinking on your dashboard. Score each one: 3 = claim, evidence, and reasoning; 2 = claim and evidence; 1 = claim only; 0 = not yet.
- The CSV export includes each student's number of responses and average score.
Find what to reteach
Most-missed questions lists the questions your class misses most, with the wrong answer chosen most often. Click any standard under Standards mastered to see which students still need it.
Use the Daily Challenge as an entry task
Put geojag.com/daily.html on the board as students come in. Your dashboard shows who finished, scores, and times. Only each student's first try counts.
Lesson guides
The lesson guides have one printable page per mission, with an objective, vocabulary, a warm-up, discussion questions, and an exit ticket with an answer key.
Supports for every student
Turn on supports for an English learner or a student with an IEP
- Open your class and click the student's name.
- Under Learning supports, choose their WIDA level to set starting supports, or check boxes one by one: read aloud, glossary, fewer choices, no timer, shorter missions, or skip map-finding.
- Supports apply the next time the student opens or reloads GeoJag. Students see their tools, never a label.
Turn on the Translate button
- In the student's Learning supports, choose their home language under Translate button.
- A ๐ button appears on questions, lessons, and feedback. In Chrome it translates on the device; the first time, Chrome may take a minute to download the language.
- In other browsers, the button offers a Google Translate link instead.
Leaderboard and sound effects
Both are off by default. Turn the leaderboard on in your class settings (it appears in classes of 10 or more). Students turn sound effects on with the speaker button at the top of each map.
Troubleshooting
"Access blocked" when signing in with Google
Your school's Google admin needs to allow GeoJag. Send them the IT setup page. Students can sign in with a class code and student code in the meantime.
A regional map says it's a Premium map
- Make sure the student joined your class (Profile tab, "Your class").
- Check that your trial or license is active on the teacher dashboard.
- If it says your license is full, your license covers a set number of students. Ask us about raising it.
A student's progress isn't showing on my dashboard
- Progress saves to your class only when the student is signed in to it. Check the top right corner of their screen.
- If it shows "offline," progress is saved on the device and syncs when they're back online.
- The dashboard updates live. Reload it if something looks stuck.
